Good Friday

Good Friday, a poem by Israel Shaw
What woeful cup before Him greets?
A divine promise weighed and made.
Bitter ‘n sweet, the cup he meets.
The coming Seed, divine and slayed.

G_d’s wrathful hand now is stayed,
This Son, perfect in will and deed.
For us, whom Satan’s will swayed
A reed bent, yet strong, He decreed.

Obedient Son who does bleed.
He breaks our chains, the tomb’s dark gloom,
from death’s grasp loosed, we now are free,
He saves us from the surest doom.

Drinking this cup, becomes our groom.
Deep sorrow His, for all to see,
This bitter cup, He did consume,
Salvation’s cup, drank for me.

My debt of sin, now fully free.
Upon the cross, His love was paid.
Atoned on that stark, lonely tree.
His life for ours, the trade He made.

Sacrifice G_d did accept!
Good Friday, our debt fully paid!
Hope’s promise kept, as Jesus wept,
On a crimson tree, wrath displayed.

His offering, complete and pure.
Good Friday, see our debt unmade!
Redemption’s cup, sweet, secure,
For me, my Savior bled and paid.
A picture showing a tree and chalice. Good Friday is the day Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that we could have a relationship with G_d through grace and mercy instead of law and wrath.

Jesus helps me understand the world. I am Iz. My goal is to share my daily fight in the hopes of being an example. An example of what exactly? Of someone who is trying live victoriously in Jesus. I fail often. Just as often, the Holy Spirit provides comfort as Jesus advocates for me before God the Father’s throne. It is my constant reality. It is a liberating reality.
